Overview

Rhino tracking on foot typically happens at Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side, or further afield at Matobo Hills near Bulawayo. Armed rangers guide small groups on foot to track white rhino, offering a completely different pace and perspective than a vehicle-based game drive.

What to expect

Briefing

A safety briefing on foot-safari conduct before setting out — always follow your guide's instructions immediately.

The walk

A quiet, paced walk tracking rhino by sign and radio contact with rangers already in the field.

The encounter

A guided, respectful-distance viewing once rhino are located — genuinely one of the most memorable wildlife moments available near the Falls.

Good to know

  • Closed shoes and neutral-colored clothing recommended
  • Not guaranteed — this is genuine wildlife tracking, not a guaranteed sighting, though success rates are generally good
  • Combine with a Zambia-side day trip alongside Devil's Pool or Livingstone Island — see our Zimbabwe vs Zambia guide
