How to think about 3 days here

Most first-time visitors make the mistake of trying to fit the Falls, an activity, a safari day-trip and a border crossing all into 3 days. Don't. This itinerary keeps you based in Victoria Falls town, gives you one full "big activity" day, and leaves buffer time β€” because flights are often delayed, and you'll want it.

Before you go
Bring US dollars in cash for tips, small vendors and activities without card facilities. Most lodges, tour operators and restaurants in town accept card or USD.

Day 1 β€” Arrival & the Falls

Morning

Arrive & settle in

Land at Victoria Falls Airport (VFA), clear immigration, and take an airport transfer to your accommodation β€” book this ahead so a driver is waiting regardless of flight delays. Check in, drop bags, and have a light lunch in town.

Afternoon

Victoria Falls Rainforest walk

Walk the trails inside Victoria Falls National Park (Zimbabwe side) β€” allow 2–3 hours. Sixteen numbered viewpoints take you along the length of the Falls; Danger Point and the Knife-Edge Bridge give the most dramatic views (and the most spray, depending on season). Bring a rain poncho or dry bag for your phone.

Evening

Sunset cruise on the Zambezi

A 2-hour boat cruise upstream from the Falls, with drinks included and good odds of spotting hippos, elephants and crocodiles along the banks. Book a mid-range or premium option depending on budget β€” this is one experience worth not going ultra-budget on.

Day 2 β€” Your big adventure day

Choose one

Pick your main activity

This is the day to do the thing you came for. Popular options, roughly by intensity:

  • Helicopter flight ("Flight of Angels") β€” 12–15 minutes over the Falls and gorges. Best done early morning for calmer air and clearer light.
  • White-water rafting β€” half or full day on Grade 5 rapids (seasonal β€” see our best time to visit guide). Full day includes a demanding climb out of the gorge.
  • Bungee jump or gorge swing β€” off the Victoria Falls Bridge, 111m above the Batoka Gorge. Quick, intense, and you're done by mid-morning.
  • Devil's Pool (low water season only) β€” half-day trip via Livingstone Island on the Zambian side, book well in advance.

Whichever you choose, build the rest of the day around it: activities in the gorge run on adrenaline and take more out of you than expected. Keep the evening low-key β€” dinner in town or at your lodge.

Day 3 β€” Wildlife & departure

Morning

Game drive or elephant-back experience

Spend your last morning with wildlife rather than adrenaline. A half-day game drive in Zambezi National Park (walking distance from town, no long transfer needed) or an ethical elephant encounter are both doable before a midday or afternoon flight.

Midday

Markets & last-minute shopping

Browse curio markets in town for stone carvings, textiles and local crafts β€” bargaining is normal and expected.

Departure

Airport transfer

Arrive at VFA at least 90 minutes before an international flight. Book your transfer the night before to lock in a pickup time.

Practical tips

  • Don't over-schedule day 1. Jet lag and travel fatigue are real; the Rainforest walk and a cruise are enough.
  • Book your "big activity" in advance, especially helicopter flights and Devil's Pool β€” they sell out in peak season (July–October).
  • Extend to 4–5 days if you want to add a Chobe (Botswana) day trip or a Hwange safari β€” see our itinerary guides for longer stays.
