The 10 best things to do

1. Walk the Victoria Falls Rainforest trails

Start here. Sixteen numbered viewpoints on the Zimbabwean side take you along the full length of the Falls β€” this is the one experience that isn't optional. Allow 2–3 hours, and bring a rain poncho; spray gets heavy in high-water season (February–May).

2. Helicopter flight β€” "Flight of Angels"

A 12–15 minute flight over the Falls and the Batoka Gorge. The best way to grasp the true scale of the Falls, and worth doing early morning when the air is calmer and light is best. From around $180.

3. White-water rafting on the Zambezi

Grade 5 rapids through the Batoka Gorge β€” genuinely world-class rafting, half or full day. Seasonal: best August through December (see our best time to visit guide). From around $130.

4. Sunset cruise on the Zambezi

A relaxed 2-hour cruise upstream from the Falls with drinks included, and good odds of spotting hippos, elephants and crocodiles on the banks. Worth booking a mid-range or premium option rather than the cheapest. From around $65.

5. Bungee jump or gorge swing β€” Victoria Falls Bridge

111 metres above the Batoka Gorge, off the historic bridge connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia. Quick, intense, and you're done inside an hour. From around $160.

6. Devil's Pool (seasonal)

A natural rock pool right on the lip of the Falls, accessed from Livingstone Island on the Zambian side. Only open roughly mid-September through December when water levels are low enough. Books out in advance β€” plan ahead.

7. Elephant-back or elephant encounter experiences

Guided walks and interpretive encounters with rescued or habituated elephants. Choose an operator that's transparent about animal welfare practices β€” ask before booking. From around $120.

8. Zipline & canopy tour

Fly across the Batoka Gorge on a zipline for views you can't get any other way, without the full commitment of a bungee jump. A good middle-ground adrenaline activity.

9. Rhino tracking on foot

Guided walking safaris to track white rhino, typically in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side or at Matobo Hills further afield. A genuinely memorable, low-adrenaline wildlife experience.

10. Tiger fishing on the Zambezi

The Zambezi is one of the best rivers in Africa for tiger fishing β€” a full or half-day guided trip is a good option if you want a slower-paced day between adventure activities.
