Age restrictions to know

Several of the headline adventure activities have minimum age or height requirements — check before you build the itinerary around them:

• Bungee jump / gorge swing: typically 14+ with parental consent under 18, and a minimum weight requirement.
• White-water rafting: most operators require a minimum age of around 12–15 depending on water levels and season.
• Helicopter flights: no strict age limit, and generally one of the best family activities — genuinely exciting for kids and adults alike.
• Elephant encounters & guided walks: family-friendly, though check individual operator policies for young children.

Always confirm current age and weight requirements directly with the operator when booking — policies vary and change.

Family-friendly activities

The Rainforest walk through Victoria Falls National Park is genuinely suitable for all ages — paved paths, short in length, and endlessly impressive for kids. A sunset cruise works well too, especially shorter family-oriented sailings. For older kids, the zipline and canopy tour is a good middle-ground adventure activity without the full intensity of a bungee jump.

Where to stay

Look for lodges explicitly set up for families — interconnecting rooms or family suites, kids' activity programs, and fenced pool areas (most lodges here are unfenced from the bush, which is part of the appeal but needs supervision with young children).

Practical tips

• Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for the whole family — talk to a doctor about pediatric options well before travel. See our safety guide.
• Wildlife is genuinely wild. Lodges are mostly unfenced; kids need clear rules about not wandering at night, and always having an adult with them after dark.
• Pace the trip. One activity per day is plenty with young kids — this isn't a trip to over-schedule.
• Sun and heat are a bigger factor than most visitors expect — hats, sunscreen and hydration matter, especially October–November.
